Gingernut Brûlée pre-poo

- Gingernut Brûlée pre-poo -

Dear Diary of a mixtress...

I've been tweaking this recipe for almost two months now, trying to get the perfect ingredients and perfect consistency... and finally i've done it and can testify to amazing results!

Mixing water and oils is a very tricky hair game, but both ingredients fused together create the perfect hair softening and detangling concoction.

Once applied I wrapped up with cling film and heat for 30 minutes. The results were lush! I have never detangled so smoothly in my life. To top it off the ginger spice aroma made me hungry!

To make your own at home spa like prepoo treatment you can use shea butter and a blend of your favourite oils and essential oils.
 Here's a recipe to try:

- Shea butter -
- Tucuma butter -
- Sweet almond oil -
- Olive oil -
- Essential oils of Lavender -

Whip together with a hand blender or whisk and enjoy the creamy goodness!

Cupcakes and pre-poo's

I'm the biggest fat kid when it comes to a good bit of cake, especially if it's a remake from my favourite bakery's recipe book - Hummingbird. Myself and my housemates have started the different dessert a week challenge, so up on the menu yesterday was the bespoke Hummingbird vanilla cupcake.

That wasn't it for mixing, I also whipped out my scientist hat and finally accomplished my very own water and oil prepoo!  It was a perfectly delicious day for haircare and of course palette satisfaction!

Check out the next post for my prepoo concoction - Gingernut spice brûlée

Here is the recipe for all you budding baking kings and queens!

For the cake:

  • 120g plain flour
  • 140g caster sugar
  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
  • a pinch of salt
  • 40g unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 120ml whole milk
  • 1 egg
  • ¼tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 quantity vanilla frosting
  • hundreds and thousands or other edible sprinkles, to decorate
  • a 12-hole cupcake tray, lined with paper cases
For the vanilla frosting:
  • 250g icing sugar, sifted
  • 80g unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 25ml whole milk
  • a couple of drops of vanilla extract

Different shades of love : Samantha Chioma

I loved once and it was coloured red
It was fierce, and it was passionate
And it wasn’t going to listen to what anybody said to it.
It was fun and it was hopeful, but it burned me up so bad on the inside
And when I was out in public I had to mix it with some blue
So people would think I wasn’t that into it
So people would think that I was cool.

I loved once and it was a yellow type of love
A free type of love, dare I say, the purest type of love.
And it listened to me and it made me laugh
It sat back and it watched me in the moments when I wasn’t looking
And when I caught it, it turned its face shyly away
And because I didn’t put any red in it, it grew tired of me
So when it withdrew and guarded its brightness from me, I decided I didn’t really love it anyway.

I thought my love was blue once
A cool, laidback, sky light kind of blue.
It was decisive, it was purposeful and it was a self-sacrificial kind of blue.
But it was confused.
It was, by nature, strong and bold and had the potential to be the greatest kind of love of them all
But it was a fearful and unstable shade of love, so I mixed in some white
Because I thought it would soften it and make it last longer.
But I mixed in too much and it forgot who it was.

So now I love in multicolour
A pretty, assorted, emotional kind of kaleidoscope
And my love is confident, and jealous, and possessive, and red.
And it’s daring, and insecure and overwhelming and blue.
It’s yellow: patient, thoughtful and distant, but loyal
It’s all kinds of fuscias, and oranges, teals, violets and torquoise
And it’s mauve, magenta and it’s deep coloured midnight.
I’m learning to love in every hue, every shade and every tint.
I’m learning to love loving all of it.

I love reading beautiful pieces like this one. Sam writes so beautifully and has a luring collection of short stories, heart to hearts and inspiring words from the soul of a virtue seeking woman.

Starting a hair regime part 1/3 : Nutrition

'It all starts from within'

source
Two years ago when first starting my hair journey, the biggest off put was always the blogs that mentioned the importance of a healthy diet in haircare. I mean honestly who has time to drink more water, eat more fruit and go to the gym these days! Watching keeping up with the Kardashians is more than enough for body exhilaration right!
Well folks truth is health really is the first point of call when starting a hair journey. It's quite simple... if you are healthy, your hair is healthy. Several problems can arise from the lack of necessary nutrients and vitamins in our diet.

 So where to begin ...
Moisture
1-2 litres of H2O everyday
Protein
Hair is dead protein, therefore protein intake is important for healthy hair.
You can find protein in many everyday foods e.g. fish, prawns, beef and eggs.
The classic F and V’s
Fruits and vegetables provide essential nutrients
to our hair e.g iron, silica, which in the long run help support
healthy hair growth and prevent hair loss.
Broccoli, green leafy vegetables, bean sprouts, beans, papaya, apples, berries,
melons, citrus fruits, grapes, coconut's are all sources of nutrients fit for queens!
[You can semi cheat through pure fruit juices and smoothies that make known the a percentage of your daily fruit intake.
If an apple a day can keep the doctor away, think of the hair benefits it has too!]

Vitamins
Hair loss occurs when our diet is inadequate in vitamin B – especially
biotin and folic acid. Foods rich in B vitamins include beans, peas, carrots,
cauliflower, bran, nuts and eggs.

Vitamins such as Vitamin A (cabbage, broccoli and spinach),
Vitamin E (vegetable oils, dried nuts), are essential vitamins that help
 prevent hair loss and elasticity.

Vitamin C aids in improving scalp circulation. It is important to maintain
capillaries that carry blood to the follicles. Oranges all the way!

Simple healthy habits
Apart from having a balanced diet, other effective hair loss
solutions include exercise, adequate sleep and avoiding bad foods. Smoking,
junk food, fizzy drinks and caffeine in excess can result in negative
 effects on hair.
---------------------

If you're wondering how to make these habits practical, begin by choosing 2 things
you can change/add, with time you can add other elements and before you know it,
your skin, hair and body will show you the results!

Diary of a mixtress : Shea butter green tea jasmine face pudding

Antioxidant Boost

- The way to younger looking skin -

Your skin is your largest organ and therefore it is extremely important to take good care of it. Antioxidants protect the skin by preventing the production of free radicals, which are damaging to skin cells. Antioxidants improve the appearance of your skin, as well as help reduce signs of aging. They also help to calm inflamed skin and are wonderfully natural.

Here's something i made earlier...

Ingredients

-Shea butter-
-Green Tea-

Method

- Place your desired amount of shea butter into a mixing bowl
- Open green tea bag's and sprinkle contents evenly over shea butter
- Continue to add green tea until you are able to fully cover the shea butter and not see much of its yellow appearance.
- Using a hand whisk or blender bring mix to a creamy, fluffy consistency.

- Apply mix to face and begin to rub in a circular motion with fair pressure.
- Once satisfied use a warm wet face towel and apply over face to create steam effect
- Do this 2-3 times and then use warm towel to now remove substance from face

Tip: After rubbing, leave pudding on face for 5 minutes whilst prepping warm water bowl bath for face towel.

Et voila! Supple soft skin before bed!!!

P.s no time to mix... make yourself a cup of green tea!

lyt protective style challenge month 5.5

One month to go guys. Have you gained 3 inches of growth? Have I?

I'm officially finishing the last phase of the challenge with buns as a protective style. Three weaves later and my hair was tired, the constant follow up of one weave to the next just wasn’t cutting it, so buns it is.
A part of me feels so weird relaxing so soon, especially after a 6 month stretch followed by an 8 month stretch, they make the soon to come 4 months seem like a joke.

Been having fun with my new tripod...can you tell!

London: Baby it's cold outside

Have you heard of those stories when people travel around the world in order to skip winter? I need to be one of those people right about now. Trust me I may add this venture to my bucket list! It is way too cold in the UK folks. In fact forget cold, it is freezing.. brrr.

Who would have thought I was able to take the picture below 3 weeks ago and now i'm scarfed up and gloved to go. Hmm...
Anyway i guess this is  just a rant and an undercover wish for someone to whisk me away to a carribean island, and relocate my uni, family and friends there for the next 3/4 months.
Holla if you have a hook up!
