During my time off work I made a conscious effort to curb my spending and make use of the things I already have, so the very minute I received a new job offer you bet my first point of call (after sharing the good news with family of course!), was to put together a very long list of ‘must haves’. I just couldn’t wait to do some shopping, and better yet I was going to spend my first week training in our New York office, this would be a shopping opportunity of a lifetime!
Now fast forward almost four weeks, and I’ve tried and tested every product and purchase I made. I figured I’d share because, well, I just can’t justify keeping these gems to myself.
// Skindinavia Makeup Finishing Spray Oil Control [UK, US]
After discovering the difference between a setting spray and finishing spray, I decided it was time to put my long time favourite Mac Fix+ on pause and try something new. I picked up the much raved about Skindinavia Finishing Spray and after just one day of wearing this and I knew I had found a new staple. Unlike my Mac Fix+ this keeps my oil production at a serious minimum even after a sweaty morning journey on the London Underground. Definitely a keeper.
// Shea Moisture Body Washes & Body Massage Oil [UK, US]
If you follow me on Instagram you’ll already know I’m seriously in love with Shea Moisture and it’s amazing body wash range. I bagged a three for two deal at CVS and restricted myself to just three bottles, what a mistake! Myself and Lu have already finished one bottle and I’m feeling quite anxious about what I’ll do when the second one runs out! If you like to smell good after your shower routine, and I mean really good, then it’s time to stop sleeping on this, the range is free of all of the ‘nasties‘ and makes your shower/bath experience that bit more enjoyable.
// Victoria’s Secret Pure Seduction Fragrance Mist [UK, US]
I’m all for midday freshening up and going to bed smelling amazing, hence why I couldn’t help but revisit this childhood favourite. Both myself and older sister would spray this whenever and wherever we could growing up and at just $5 a bottle these made for the perfect gift for friends and family.
// Bragg Apple Cider Vinegar [UK, US]
You may find this hard to believe but I’m an ACV virgin! I’ve known about the many benefits of ACV for some time now but didn’t care much for an extra step in my hair care regimen. Considering the GBP-USD exchange rate (prior to Brexit), I figured it would make sense to pick up a bottle or two as it worked out to be much cheaper in the States than in the UK. I’ll keep you posted on how I get on with this.
// NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams – Abu Dhabi [UK, US]
Oh how I love a good nude lip. I first discovered the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams on YouTube, and since adding it to my makeup arsenal almost 6 months ago I’ve used it at least once a week, every week if not more. I figured it only made sense to repurchase and also try a few other shades. If you’re looking for an everyday nude lip product Abu Dhabi is a must have. Here is the video that had me sold on the range.
// Colourpop Ultra Matte Lips – Stingraye, Limbo, Lax [US]
A few months back I wrote a post on taking your lip game to the next level by using matte lip beauty products. Well that post resulted in a few purchases and seeing as I loved the products I purchased so much, I decided to pick up a few more, namely Colourpop’s Stingraye, Limbo and Lax. There’s a reason why so many women have video reviews on these colours, they are extremely flattering and I’m so glad I have them!
// The Face Shop Real Nature Sheet Masks [UK, US]
Sometime last year I discovered the ‘Korean 10 Step Skin Care Routine‘ and was inspired to give my skin regimen a makeover. One of the steps of the Korean regimen involves the use of sheet masks, and so I began to search for some high quality yet inexpensive masks online. My search led me to The Face Shop, a Korean skincare and beauty brand. Unfortunately I quickly learned that getting my hands on some masks would cost me a fortune here in the UK. You wouldn’t beleive my excitement when I stumbled upon the store in New York. The verdict? #Winning, I use a mask once a week and my skin couldn’t be more grateful.
// Kiss True Volume Lashes [UK, US]
If there’s one impulse buy I indulged in during my trip it was this one. I’ve never been one for wearing lashes but I do love how they look on. I saw these at just $4 a pair and thought I’d give them a try. It was definitely the right thing to do because these are very flattering but also natural looking. Now all I need is an occasion to wear them to.
// The Balm Cosmetics Betty-Lou Manizer Highlighter [UK, US]
Of all of my purchases this was probably the purchase I anticipated using the most. The lighting in Duane Reade was not makeup swatch friendly [plus I wear glasses], so I wasn’t sure what this would look like in a brightly lit setting. Well, I have not been disappointed and use this pretty much every day. I love the golden and dewy finish it gives when applied to my cheekbones and my summer glow routine wouldn’t be complete without it.
Last and by no means least, I also picked up my favourite concealer in Fawn by L.A. Girl Cosmetics, aswell as a new liquid eyeliner by Wet N Wild. I have to commend the L.A. Girl creators for making such a great product without the hefty price tag. I’ve been using this for close to 6 months and it outshines all of my other high end concealers.
So there you have it, a peek into my skincare and daily beauty regimen, and before I forget, if you’d like to see some swatches of the lip products and Betty-Lou Manizer then do check out my video below.
